Probiostat for Vaginal Infections
By Lorna R. Vanderhaeghe
Over 12 million North American women visit the doctor for vaginal infections every year. Vaginal infections and/or the use of antibiotics can disrupt healthy vaginal flora. Healthy vaginal flora consists of lactic bacteria that keep pathogens (harmful bacteria) under control. Maintaining this normal equilibrium is the key to restoring vaginal health.
Candidiasis
Candidiasis, commonly called candida or yeast infection, is a fungal infection of any of the Candida species, of which Candida albicans is the most common.
Candidiasis encompasses infections that range from superficial, such as oral thrush and vaginitis, to systemic and potentially life-threatening diseases. A candida or yeast infection causes itching or soreness in the vagina and sometimes causes pain or burning when you urinate or have intercourse. Some women also have a white discharge that looks similar to cottage cheese and has no odour. These symptoms are more likely to occur during the week before your menstrual period.
A healthy vagina has many bacteria and a small number of yeast cells. The most common
bacteria called Lactobacillus acidophilus, helps keep other organisms – like the yeast –
under control. When infection occurs to change the balance of these organisms, yeast can grow too much and cause symptoms.
Many women mistake the symptoms of the more common bacterial vaginosis for a candida or yeast infection. In a 2002 study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, only 33% of women who were self-treating for a yeast infection actually had a yeast infection. Instead, they had either bacterial vaginosis or a mixed-type infection.
Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is an infection caused by a pathogen (harmful bacteria) called Trichomonas. It is a sexually transmitted disease that represents 10% of vaginal infections. Symptoms can include inflammation, greenish-yellow frothy vaginal secretions, itching and painful urination.

“ I saw my gynaecologist on Friday and she recommended that I start using Probiostat® Vaginal right away, while waiting for my test results to determine what type of vaginal infection I have. I have to admit that your product is interesting. Two days after starting the Probiostat® Vaginal, the odour and colour discharge were not as unpleasant as it had been. I also found it very easy to use; the applicator is small, easy to insert and there is no mess during the night or even when I get up.”
– Thanks for taking good care of me, Christine
“I am a woman that has had recurrent infections for years. I recently saw my gynaecologist who recommended the use of Probiostat® Vaginal. After a month I can tell you that this product is better than anything else I have tried in the past and the insertion of the capsule is also easy. ”
